Get Found Online
DAY 5 – Google Analytics
“What gets measured gets done”
Google Analytics is another amazing free tool from Google. If you don’t have it installed you are flying blind with your digital marketing & risking a horrible crash. Watch the video to find out more about Analytics and how to use it to help you get found online.
The first task of Day 5 is to make sure you have Google Analytics correctly installed on your website.
Sign up at https://analytics.google.com/ if you don’t have an account.
The majority of website builders such as WordPress, Shopify and Squarespace make it very easy to install the Analytics code. Typically you’ll paste the code into a field somewhere in the backend of your website but the mechanism will be a bit different for each different platform. Your website builder should have specific instructions but if you’re getting stuck, post in the EBA Facebook group for assistance.
Once the Google Analytics code is installed & tracking data you need to measure 3 key numbers from your Analytics account to see how your efforts to Get Found Online are paying off. Set your Analytics account to show data over a 30 day period (either the last 30 days or the last full month if you prefer) & then find the data for:
1. The total number of unique users to your site
2. The total number of users from organic search
3. The percentage of users from organic search
Write these down & then make a note in your diary to check again in a months time to see if there has been any change. This is also a great time to check your Google Webmaster account for any crawl issues or other warning notices.
if you’ve been working on improving your Google My Business profile (see day 1 and day 2 course content) then over the next 30-60 days you should start to see the effects of your labour in your Google Analytics account as more people come and find you online.
